The judge of the National Court José Luis Calama has lifted this Tuesday the secrecy of the proceedings of the Plus Ultra case in which he is investigating, among others, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, once the search of the official office of the former prime minister began this morning.
In the order, to which La Vanguardia has had access, the instructor explains that the measure has already fulfilled its purpose by having “guaranteed the success of the investigation.”
Calama has decided that the parties, that is, lawyers of the defenses and accusations, be informed of the judicial summary to know the inquiries initiated in 2024 by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the UDEF of the National Police.

For months, investigators have been after the former prime minister for his business with the businessman and friend Julio Martínez Martínez, implicated in the rescue of the airline Plus Ultra for his alleged participation in the laundering of the 53 million euros granted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez to save the airline company.
“The exclusion of the publicity of the proceedings cannot be seen as a limit to freedom of information, but rather, more broadly and generically, as an impediment to the knowledge, by anyone, of the judicial proceedings carried out in the instruction phase,” the lifting order states. The instructor maintains that the only reason to keep the secrecy of the proceedings is the “exclusive purpose of ensuring the effective repression of the crime.”
