The Secretary of State for Youth and Childhood, Rubén Pérez Correa, has labeled the mass deportations of minors proposed at a joint press conference in Ceuta this Wednesday by the President of the Autonomous City, Juan Jesús Vivas, and the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as “manifest illegality.”

In an interview with Cadena Ser, Pérez Correa admitted to being “surprised” by the statements of the Popular Party because Feijóo “knows perfectly well how protection systems work.”
Thus, he acknowledged that the ministry respects that Ceuta’s priority is “the return of minors to Morocco,” but “does not share” the mass deportation defended at the press conference by Vivas and Feijóo, recalling that this issue is illegal.
The Secretary of State insisted that both the European return regulation, which requires the search for a family, guardian, or suitable facility for minors, and the Supreme Court itself, which in 2021 established that returns must have “individualized guarantees,” prevent the returns proposed by the PP leaders.
“If this were as easy as the PP currently suggests, their protection systems in autonomous communities that oversee thousands of minors could have started this or sought this formula. They are aware that it is not legal,” added the Secretary of State.

This Wednesday President Vivas also denied being informed about the transfer plan on which the Government is working to move about 500 girls to the Peninsula. However, Pérez Correa denies that the regional government was unaware of this plan.
“They know about it because we are working on it with their Childhood Directorate,” he explained. In this regard, the Secretary of State emphasized that the Ministry is responsible for making “a proposal based on the territory,” but they also “explore the possibility” of referring the girls to specialized resources on the peninsula.
“We have the mechanism and the financial resources, we have allocated 25 million euros, it was the first emergency action because we already saw the serious migratory contingency in the previous days,” he detailed.
