The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, announced after an in-person meeting with the President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, that this Monday four new humanitarian care centers will be deployed on a “temporary and extraordinary” basis to serve the immigrants who have been in the autonomous city since the end of July. The Government spokesperson also specified that the opening of these spaces will allow for housing 1,500 migrants.

Specifically, three of the locations are owned by the central government and the fourth is provided by the Ceuta city government. Regarding the first three, these are the equestrian facilities, the old football field of the Cavalry barracks, and the El Guano area. The fourth will be set up in the Embolsamiento parking lot, in Loma Colmenar.

Following this announcement, the head of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration emphasized that “collaboration between institutions is essential to restore normality in Ceuta as soon as possible.” At the same time, Saiz stated that she will remain in the autonomous city for a few days with the aim of managing the situation.
