The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Milagros Tolón, stated this Wednesday that the Government wants the final of the 2030 World Cup to be played in Spain. “We deserve it,” she said.
Tolón said this in an interview on the program ‘Hora 25’ of Cadena SER after the British newspaper The Times published yesterday that the FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, would have offered Morocco to host the final of the 2030 World Cup in exchange for their support in a future re-election.
Tolón acknowledged that the information has “surprised” them, although she recalled that FIFA has already denied it and insisted that the Government will continue working so that the decisive match of the tournament is played in Spain.

“We want the final to be in our country because we deserve it,” said the Minister, who has defended the Spanish candidacy appealing to the country’s experience in organizing major sporting events, as well as its infrastructure, communications, and security conditions.

“Spain has a lot to offer. We were the ones who led the candidacy together with Portugal and then Morocco joined. I am convinced that FIFA will choose Spain for the final,” Tolón said.
During the interview, Tolón also avoided commenting on whether, after the Ceuta migration crisis, the Government regrets sharing the organization of the World Cup with Morocco. “These are decisions made by FIFA,” she replied and emphasized that the Executive maintains its commitment to the joint project.
Likewise, she downplayed the differences with Sumar, which has asked to break the agreement with Morocco due to the human rights situation, and insisted that the Government’s goal is “to work so that it is the best World Cup in Spain’s history.”
