This philosophy that there is no climate crisis has definitively been blown apart this summer throughout Europe. The heat waves that the continent is suffering are changing the behavioral habits of Europeans like never before. In Spain, citizens have long since gotten used to high temperatures and, with the allowance of fluctuations in electric power, are more than prepared to withstand them.
What caught everyone off guard was the virulence of the fires. Here we must lament the disconnection between the Government and the opposition, or rather, between the central Government and the autonomous communities governed by the PP, to face a major agreement on this matter. Surely there are areas where the left and right can still maintain conceptual differences, but in defending the environment and addressing fire prevention it would be hard to find them. One reads the Government’s proposals on the State pact on the climate crisis and then reads the 50 measures that the PP proposed last Thursday to end the fires and cannot find the fundamental differences. However, the agreement seems impossible, as our specialist Antonio Cerrillo explained yesterday in La Vanguardia, because the political interests of each party prevail.

Ideally, both parties would reach an understanding in this area, and if they want, they could then continue discussing everything else.
