Tellado points out that Junts, ERC, and the PNV are as "rotten" as the Government they support

In Catalonia, and during the board meeting in which the congress of the Catalan PP was formally convened, the secretary general of the Popular Party, Miguel Tellado, took advantage of the platform to launch all-out attacks against Sánchez’s partners, naming Junts, ERC, and the PNV one by one. After a week marked by the indictment of former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, the PP leader stated that the mentioned parties “are as rotten as Pedro Sánchez’s Government.”

Tellado, after considering that the cases allegedly involving Zapatero are the most serious in Spain’s recent history, pointing out that the entire Council of Ministers, with Sánchez at the helm, is under suspicion due to the Plus Ultra case, and after emphasizing that his entire circle has fallen, asked what his partners are doing. “They were the ones who caused these people to be in the Government,” he highlighted. Junts, PNV, and ERC opened the way to Moncloa with their support, he continued, and are as responsible as Pedro Sánchez for their ties to Zapatero. “Where are they?” he asked, reproaching their silence and pointing out that they will “plunge” alongside the socialists. This was an appeal during a week in which Feijóo again stated that he is not presenting a motion of no confidence because he lacks support.

There was a special mention for Gabriel Rufián, who did speak out this week. Tellado acidly mocked his distress, but then indicated that the ERC leader wants to lead a “far-left” list to support Sánchez again.

The criticisms of the socialist Government’s partners were the climax of the speech in which the congress of the Catalan PP was officially convened for June 27. A congress that the secretary general considered fundamental for the Popular project in Spain and to bring Alberto Núñez Feijóo to Moncloa. “The Catalan PP must take a leap in quality, get ready” and he encouraged the current president, Alejandro Fernández, to run for re-election and take on the challenge and responsibility for the PP to “grow in the regional elections beyond 15 seats and in the general elections to get more than six.”

Tellado was clear, pointing out the “obligation” to continue on a path of growth, and highlighting that the PP’s important victories in Spain have come hand in hand with good results in Catalonia, where he requested that the party gain at least three more seats. It is worth remembering that it was only one deputy who allowed the PSOE to govern in 2023, and that in Catalonia the gap with the PSC was 18 seats.

On an internal note, the secretary general raised the need to build a young, cohesive, and open leadership to achieve the political leap the PP seeks with this conclave.

Alejandro Fernández also addressed his party’s Board of Directors to convey the keys on which he wants to renew the political project. The main focus was on giving the final push from Catalonia so that “political change in Spain can be built” with Feijóo’s arrival at Moncloa.

Alejandro Fernández sets the political line with a defense of management but warning that the State is being dismantled in Catalonia

In the field of Catalan politics, the Popular leader expressed the need to grow in forming an alternative to nationalism and the left in the Parliament. And, regarding internal organization, he indicated that it must be fine-tuned by forming solid and innovative structures to be an instrument for change in Spain. “From Catalonia,” he emphasized, “we are going to build political change in Spain.”

Alejandro Fernández outlined the main areas on which the PP focuses in management: housing, security, orderly immigration, education based on a culture of effort, the need to reduce the tax burden in Catalonia… But he also sent a clear message about how he wants the PP to position itself in the national debate and, therefore, in the congress report. He denounced the “dismantling of the State” in Catalonia to point out that this is not “decentralization” but the separatists’ interest in having state structures (finance, justice, police…) when a new independence attempt might be proposed.

The board meeting held agreed that Juan Milián, Fernando Sánchez Costa, and Lorena Roldán will lead the political report. The congress will have Llanos de Luna and Santi Rodríguez as president and vice president. In the statutes report will be Maritxu Hervás, Mónica Parés, Joan Simeón, and Alberto Mas.
