The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has convened the National Security Council to an extraordinary meeting tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. to analyze the migratory crisis that Ceuta has been experiencing since July 30. This is the highest body that the head of the Executive must attend regarding the direction of national security policy. This meeting comes 26 days after an avalanche of nearly 80,000 migrants crossed the border to reach the autonomous city, where about 8,000 may still remain.
Among others, Teodoro López (Chief of the Defense Staff), Esperanza Casteleiro (Director of the CNI), and Loreto Gutiérrez (Director of National Security) will attend the meeting. Pedro Sánchez will preside over this Council, accompanied by ministers José Manuel Albares (Foreign Affairs), Fernando Grande-Marlaska (Interior), Margarita Robles (Defense), Félix Bolaños (Presidency), Óscar Puente (Transport), Arcadi España (Finance), Jordi Hereu (Industry), and Mónica García (Health).
The National Security Council will meet at the Moncloa Palace, one hour before the first Council of Ministers is held after the summer break. Among the functions of this body are to set the guidelines for planning and coordinating national security policy, to direct and coordinate management actions in crisis situations, and to supervise and ensure compliance with the national security strategy.
This will be the third meeting that the President of the Government leads to address the situation in Ceuta. On August 7 and 17, he presided over two telematic meetings with several of his ministers to analyze the different scenarios related to this crisis and coordinate the Executive’s actions.

Additionally, tomorrow will also be marked by the first of the appearances by one of the ministers in Congress to explain the management of the crisis in the autonomous city and what happened. The one to start these interventions will be the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who will appear before the commission of her department at 12:30 p.m.
Thursday will be the turn of the ministers of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, and the Minister of Health, Mónica García. Bolaños will start before the Joint Commission on National Security at 10 a.m., and two hours later, García will do so in the Health commission.
On Friday, there will be three more appearances by ministers. The first will be Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who will speak before the Interior commission starting at nine in the morning. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, will do so at 12 p.m., and the week’s interventions will end with the Minister of Inclusion and Migrations, Elma Saiz, at four in the afternoon. On Monday the 31st, all appearances will conclude with ministers Sira Rego (Youth and Childhood) and Ana Redondo (Equality).
