The Mossos d’Esquadra have reported that on April 16 a man in his 30s was arrested in Arenys de Mar (Maresme) as the alleged perpetrator of a sexual assault. The investigation began in February, when the Mossos learned of a woman being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Badalona, who was in very serious condition. Initial inquiries confirmed that the victim had severe injuries consistent with a sexual assault, as well as various fractures.

The Mossos’ investigations revealed that the victim met the alleged perpetrator through an instant messaging dating app. This man used several fake profiles to contact women and select potential victims. Once he gained their trust, he extorted money from her, progressively isolated her from her family environment, and finally assaulted her both physically and sexually.

After identifying the man and reporting the facts to the judicial authority, an order was issued for his search, arrest, and presentation before the courts. The International Fugitive Search Group (GRIF), in coordination with the ABP Investigation Unit of Arenys de Mar, took charge of locating him, as the detainee had prior offenses in the United States for similar acts.

The arrested man now faces charges of attempted murder, illegal detention, sexual assault, crimes against moral integrity, and extortion. The United States embassy has officially expressed its gratitude and recognition to the Mossos d’Esquadra for the swift police action and the collaboration maintained throughout the process.
