The State Attorney General, Teresa Peramato, will propose to the Government the appointment of María Isabel Martín as the new Chief Prosecutor of Madrid, which means the replacement of Almudena Lastra, the prosecutor who testified against Álvaro García Ortiz in the trial in which he was convicted for revealing confidential information.

Peramato, once the Prosecutorial Council has been held, will propose 22 appointments of senior officials of the Prosecutor’s Office for their appointment by the Council of Ministers, according to the State Attorney General’s Office this Thursday.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Peramato has decided based on “criteria of merit and ability of the candidates, their extensive curriculum and experience, and the proposals of their respective action plans.”
The position of chief prosecutor of Lugo has not received applications, so it will have to be called again.
As expected, Lastra, who aspired to remain in the position of Chief Prosecutor of Madrid which she has held for five years, will be replaced by María Isabel Martín López, who has been in the Technical Secretariat of the Prosecutor’s Office since 2018, a support body for the Attorney General.
Peramato has highlighted her “high level of technical competence, professional rigor, and her proven ability to face responsibilities of special complexity and demand,” as well as her action plan “to transform the Madrid Chief Prosecutor’s Office under the principles of excellence, cohesion, and public service.”
A key figure in the team of the State Attorney General will be María José Osuna, the new Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutorial Inspection, after four years leading the Tarragona Prosecutor’s Office. The Deputy Prosecutor of the Inspection will be Juan José Criado.
Another relevant appointment will be that of the provincial prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez, who was once under investigation along with the former Attorney General in the case for revealing secrets about the tax fraud of Alberto González Amador, Isabel Díaz Ayuso’s boyfriend, and who is promoted to the Supreme Court as a Social Prosecutor.

For her part, Pilar Fernández, García Ortiz’s wife, will leave the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office in Madrid to return to Galicia, where she will be the new Deputy Prosecutor of the Autonomous Community’s Prosecutor’s Office.
The Chief Prosecutor of the Civil Section of the Supreme Court will continue to be Pilar Martín Nájera, just as Pedro Crespo will remain in charge of the Constitutional Court Prosecutor’s Office. Antonio Romeral will continue as Deputy Prosecutor in Anti-Corruption.
Meanwhile, María Eugenia Hernández Fernández obtains a position in the National Court.
The new Chief Prosecutor of the Balearic Islands will be Adrián Salazar, until now Deputy Prosecutor in that territory; in the Canary Islands it will be Jaime Serrano-Jover; in Castilla-La Mancha Emilio Fernández continues; in Aragón María Asunción Losada; and in Extremadura Francisco Javier Montero.
The new provincial prosecutor of Cuenca will be José Ernesto Fernández; in Burgos José Fernández Mérida will remain; in Castellón María Díaz Berbel.
Ernesto José Vieira will be Deputy Prosecutor of the Canary Islands Prosecutor’s Office; Antonio Mateos, of Extremadura; Carolina Santos, of Cantabria; and José Rogelio Muñoz will continue in Andalusia.
Sources from the Prosecutor’s Office have highlighted that of the 22 appointments, six are from the Prosecutors’ Association, another six from the Progressive Union of Prosecutors, and the rest are non-affiliated.
