Amid a diplomatic crisis between Argentina and Brazil over insults from the Argentine president, Javier Milei, to the Brazilian president Lula da Silva at an event supporting candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, the Casa Rosada announces the signing of a presidential decree that will allow banning the entry or stay in the country of any foreigner accused of sending or inciting messages of hatred, discrimination and/or violence against the Argentine people or its national symbols.

Brazil and Argentina are going through a serious diplomatic crisis after Milei participated in the proclamation ceremony of Flávio Bolsonaro as presidential candidate for the October elections and called President Lula a “prisoner” and “thief” in a speech full of insults on Brazilian soil. At the same event, Milei openly supported Flávio Bolsonaro as the only candidate capable of “stopping the socialist trash” at the polls. Lula will seek his fourth non-consecutive term.
The Brazilian ambassador in Buenos Aires, Julio Bitelli, meanwhile, remains “for now” in Brasilia, reports EFE, after being recalled for consultations and also summoning the Argentine ambassador in Brasilia, Daniel Raimondi.

The Milei administration, for its part, has downplayed the episode. “We do not take it to the institutional level,” said Argentine Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, in statements collected by EFE.
