Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Juan Jesús Vivas shared a platform this Monday at the Nueva Economía Fórum and addressed the crisis in Ceuta, where more than 70,000 people from Morocco entered at the end of July. “I am sure that the reaction of President Vivas and all his people, later followed by the majority of Spaniards, has thwarted a plan that started with an invasion, continued with resignation, and ended with some kind of concession to the neighboring country,” said Feijóo, who insisted that the Ceuta crisis was “tolerated and sponsored” by Morocco.
In this way, the leader of the PP continues to harden his tone against Morocco and against Sánchez over the Ceuta crisis.
Vivas pointed out that behind the “blow” is Morocco. “I am going to take a stand based on indications and convictions. I say this responsibly, all indications point to that,” added Vivas, who recalled that there are “images of the Moroccan gendarmerie” collaborating with the immigrants and that these are included in police reports. “It is a systemic attitude of Morocco, trying to suffocate and corner Ceuta and Melilla,” he said.
Vivas insisted that the Ceuta crisis is not migratory, but an “existential crisis, a State crisis, affecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.” The president of Ceuta assured that the city “is Spain no matter how you look at it, from all four sides,” because this is supported by Law, history, and “what the people of Ceuta want, no matter how they think or pray.”
The president of Ceuta also denounced the Government’s management because he said they called the Presidency and several ministries in the days before, but they downplayed the problem. “They told us nothing was happening,” he said.
After Vivas’s intervention, Isabel Díaz Ayuso briefly took the floor, delving into the idea of Feijóo and the president of Ceuta that there was a plan behind the massive entry of immigrants. The president of the Community of Madrid asked “what was intended and what is intended for the future” and accused the Government of abandoning Spanish interests in border areas (she also mentioned Algeciras) in favor of Morocco.
“The Government is responsible for security and for what happens from now on,” said Ayuso, who was accompanied by a large representation of regional presidents, such as Juanma Moreno, Alfonso Rueda, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, Juan José Imbroda, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, and Fernando López Miras.
