The meteorological services and Civil Protection of Catalonia are monitoring the episode of rains forecast for this Thursday and the coming days, which could generate locally intense storms. Civil Protection has activated the pre-alert of the Inuncat plan and has asked the population to take extreme precautions.
Meteocat has updated the danger warnings for today in Catalonia, which will have the entire territory under a yellow warning for rainfall intensity in 30 minutes. According to the meteorological service, the showers will be accompanied by storms and violent weather phenomena.
Additionally, the warning from the Meteorological Service of Catalonia will extend at least until Saturday noon. Friday is expected to be the most intense day, with a rainfall intensity warning rising to high danger in the regions of Baix Penedès, Tarragonès, and Baix Camp.
The radical weather change in Catalonia with storms and a drop in temperatures comes with a northern front that will also affect other autonomous communities, after a few weeks of very intense heat.
On the other hand, Civil Protection reported this Thursday that swimming is prohibited on the beaches of Cunit, Cubelles, and Calafell, and on most of the beaches in the city of Tarragona due to strong waves and rough sea conditions. Red flags are flying this morning on the beaches of Miracle, Arrabassada, Llarga (3), Capellans, Cossis, Savinosa, Waikiki, and Calabecs in Tarragona.
The agency reminds that with a red flag, swimming is prohibited due to the danger posed to people’s safety by waves, strong currents, or rough sea conditions.
