Not even when European delegations are in Kyiv does Russia stop terrorizing the Ukrainian capital with its airstrikes. The alarm went off this Monday night at the Intercontinental hotel in Kyiv, where, among others, the President of the European Council, António Costa, was staying, who, like the other hotel guests, hurried to lock themselves in the shelter located in the hotel garage due to possible ballistic missiles launched from the Russian city of Tagarog.
The episode was resolved without incident in about fifteen minutes, after which Costa and the delegation accompanying him – including a small group of journalists of which La Vanguardia is part – were able to return outside. In the garage, the guests found everything from armchairs to food, water, blankets, and tea, which the inhabitants of the capital of the war-torn country use daily.

Costa, whose dinner was interrupted by the alarm, also coincided in the garage with the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, other leaders who, like the Portuguese socialist, traveled to Kyiv to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence from the Soviet Union and the meeting of the volunteer coalition in which they analyzed, among other things, the current shortage of long-range missile defense systems. However, he did not coincide in the shelter with Donald Trump’s advisor Keith Kellogg, nor with the British premier Andy Burnham, who were also in the Ukrainian capital this Monday.

Everything happens in a summer in which Russia has relentlessly bombarded Ukraine.
