In Catalonia, some political parties talk about education and others talk about teaching. Whether it is one or the other, the task of the school does not change much. What it does have is a huge responsibility in our society, beyond families and the tribe, that is, beyond all the environment of relatives and friends surrounding a child. Because the school develops the students’ cognitive abilities and provides the knowledge they need to become first-class citizens.

Despite all the political uproar to discredit a successful model such as linguistic immersion, often used as an electoral strategy, the Catalan school has worked for years and years like a little ant, trying to isolate itself from that noise which is as interested as it is unfounded. Despite all the shortcomings of immersion, and although much more could be done with the same resources if the human factor were not so distorting, the success is evident.

The proof is two people who, by those coincidences of life, have bought a theater together. They are the singer Aitana and the magician Antonio Díaz, who have acquired the Aquitània in Barcelona. But this circumstance has nothing to do with linguistic immersion. What it has to do with is the two of them.

In December 2025, the Magician Pop announced he was preparing a tour to perform large-scale magic in sports stadiums around the world. The presentation with a press conference was held at his Victoria theater, where Catalan, Spanish, and English were used successively. The sentences were not translated from one language to another, but were said alternating them. In the journalists’ question session, the same. Despite the presence of foreign press, Catalan was spoken on equal terms.
Educated in Catalonia, Aitana and the Magician Pop come from Spanish-speaking families, but they have decided to use Catalan as one of their two native languages, and they have done so in public, without any political message, but as a cultural reality of the country that saw them born. And that has been thanks to the school, which teaches or educates, but does not indoctrinate. All the money allocated to the school is little if we really believe in Catalan culture and language.
