A 60-year-old man died early Monday morning after falling from a fourth floor while fleeing the flames that started in his home. The fire began around four in the morning, for unknown reasons, inside the apartment at number 102 Comte Borrell Street in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The victim jumped into the void and despite the efforts of the medical personnel who tried to resuscitate him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, he died at the scene.

Calls to 112 alerted the various emergency services that dispatched firefighters, medical personnel in SEM ambulances, Mossos d’Esquadra, and Guardia Urbana to the scene. Each took on their responsibility.
The priority was to try to save the man’s life, without success. And the firefighters extinguished the flames of a fire that did not damage the building’s structure, only burned the affected apartment, and caused injuries of varying severity to five other people. None are feared to be life-threatening.

The investigation unit of the Mossos from the Eixample police station has taken charge of the investigation. The forensic police analyzed the scene to determine the causes of the fire’s origin.
