Alberto Núñez Feijóo was critical of Pedro Sánchez yesterday and continued making demands to the Government to try to regain control in Ceuta after the entry of nearly 50,000 immigrants from Morocco. The leader of the PP, who has yet to receive any call from Sánchez to address the crisis in the autonomous city, continues to demand a “massive deployment of resources” to retake control of the border – the Government did respond on Thursday to the popular leader’s demand to mobilize the Army –. In addition, he contacted international leaders to explain Spain’s situation.

Specifically, the PP leader, who will be in Ceuta today, proposes the use of “constitutional instruments provided by the legal system without ruling any out” and to provide the State Security Forces and Corps and the Armed Forces with the “resources and instructions that this situation demands.” Furthermore, he calls on the Government to accept help from Frontex and its rapid intervention units; a change in the Immigration Law to guarantee rejection at the border – he questioned the effectiveness of the buoys in the sea that Sánchez announced –; and diplomatic action with Morocco to redirect the situation.

In this regard, PP sources explain that Feijóo contacted some of the main European leaders yesterday to personally explain the “serious circumstances” Spain is going through “after the invasion of Ceuta and the inadequate response of Pedro Sánchez’s Government.”
Among the international leaders contacted by Feijóo are the presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament, the president of the European People’s Party, the German chancellor, the Austrian chancellor, the prime ministers of Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, Greece, and the Italian vice president. “Thus, up to about twenty leaders who are concerned about what is happening in our country and who have received more information from the opposition in Spain than from our country’s government,” the same sources point out, adding that Feijóo also contacted the United States Under Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
The PP leader has also demanded “responsibilities” from Sánchez and his appearance before Congress.
Feijóo is critical of Sánchez’s response to the influx of immigrants, but so far has avoided discussing the causes behind the massive arrival of immigrants, something that, however, the party’s secretary general Miguel Tellado did. Tellado stated that the influx is caused by Sánchez’s migration policy, “giving papers to everyone and regularizing at once more than a million immigrants who have entered illegally.” In this regard, the leader of the European People’s Party himself, Manfred Weber, endorsed this thesis: “The devastating images are the direct consequence of the call effect of the massive regularization combined with the instrumentalization of illegal migration.”

Santiago Abascal has suspended his international agenda these days, according to Vox sources, to focus on the Ceuta crisis. The Vox leader had planned to conclude his foreign agenda with his presence in Colombia to support Abelardo de la Espriella at his inauguration as president on August 7. “For now, he has returned to Madrid to lead the Vox crisis team that has been activated since yesterday,” party sources say.
Through social media, Abascal reacted to Sánchez’s visit to Ceuta and said that “he cannot approach the Spaniards.” “But if he walks among the invaders, he will be acclaimed,” Abascal added. “They must be expelled along with him. He is a traitor,” he stated.
Likewise, Vox has registered several initiatives in Congress. Thus, it has demanded the immediate appearance of the CNI director Esperanza Casteleiro and the Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares. Likewise, Vox demands to know the communications maintained by the Government with Morocco during the course of the crisis, the Executive’s position on proposals made at the European level regarding border management and the possible effects on the Schengen area, and the statements made by various international leaders about the migratory situation in Spain.
Likewise, Vox has ordered the suspension, in the four regional governments where it has responsibilities, of aid to NGOs “that collaborate or finance the migratory invasion of Ceuta,” with the aim of “preventing a single public euro from ending up financing those who support” that invasion.
