The month of August is for ‘Ted Lasso’ (and nine other series)

If the most-watched comedy of recent years returns, acclaimed by both the public and critics, it is automatically placed on the list of television priorities for this August. It is the sports comedy Ted Lasso, of course, returning to focus on a women’s soccer team and repeat the play: to entertain and move with the good intentions of coach Lasso.

But, among youth bets like Sterling Point or the conclusion of Outer Banks, there is a series ready to provoke the audience: The Shards, the adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel by the author himself and Ryan Murphy, who you never know if he will deliver quality, trash, or something that is (impossibly) somewhere in between.

In just one year Murphy has released the failed The History of Ed Gein, the ridiculous (in a good way) All the Law, the inconsequential The Beauty, and the magnificent Love Story. This one promises to fascinate, for better or worse. What are all the premieres next month?

Upon finishing it, he needed to stop: like Ted, he was tired of having to live half the year in the UK, away from his family. But, after a three-year break, he returns with a new dramatic arc: Rebecca convinces Ted to coach the Richmond women’s team and lead them to victory.

Ten new episodes where Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and Brendan Hunt remain on the payroll awaiting a much more female secondary cast including Tanya Reynolds. Can the sweetest and most encouraging series win over critics again, after two Emmy awards for best comedy? Starting August 5.

The hyperactive Ryan Murphy collaborates with Bret Easton Ellis for the adaptation of The Shards, his pseudobiographical, teen, psychological, nostalgic, and bloody book. One of the attractions? Seeing Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford, and Homer Gere, son of Richard Gere, work together, considering their parents’ 90s marriage. The debate starts August 6: are the nepobabies with nostalgic sauce up to the task?
