Number 102 Andrade Street belongs to a set of blocks with a single entrance and a garden, almost private, where neighbors and friends of the victim gathered this Wednesday. She, Camila, was 34 years old, originally from Brazil, and was the mother of two children aged four and eight. Her killer, Yarman, from the Dominican Republic, father of two children with a previous partner, had been living in Barcelona for more than a decade.
In the early hours of Wednesday, the man surrendered at a Mossos police station in Barcelona. He had to be assisted by SEM health workers because he was suffering an anxiety attack. He still had bloodstains on his clothes. Two weeks ago, the man reported the mother of his children at a police station and accused her of mistreating the children, accusations he supported with images recorded on video.
He will not appear before a judge until Friday, accused of the murder of his wife.
The couple’s acquaintances gathered this Wednesday in the garden in front of the building. Zoraida is the neighbor who took the two children into her home after the crime. She knew the parents and had the presence of mind to protect the two children as soon as the events happened.
It was just a few minutes past seven on Tuesday evening. The now arrested man parked his white Ford van in front of the building’s door and went up to the first floor, a flat where he had been living for almost a decade. The couple argued. The older of the two children opened the door to ask for help, and some neighbors on the landing, alerted by the screams, came out to see what was happening. They entered the home and, according to some sources, the woman witnessed the last stab wounds the man inflicted on the mother of his children. “He grabbed the two children and took them down to the street so they would stop witnessing that atrocity,” Zoraida recounted yesterday.

The man fled bloodied in his van, which he abandoned in the Navas district, to surrender hours later in Eixample. In the building, he left his wife, badly wounded from several stab wounds, with emergency medical services unable to do anything to save her life.
“They have killed my mom,” repeated the older of the two siblings, who, hours later, at the neighbor’s house, asked when their mother would come to pick them up.
Outside the house, the couple behaved like an “exemplary marriage,” said Aurelia, another neighbor who coincided with both in the elevator. “I would never have said that about him. The ideal man who always greeted you, opened the door when you didn’t arrive. I had to ask for an aspirin last night because I couldn’t believe it,” she insisted.
The neighbors on the landing knew about the couple’s fights, hearing noises, and some neighbors this Wednesday regretted not having spoken up earlier. His mother returned a few days ago to the Dominican Republic “tired” of the couple’s fights, explained another friend of the couple.
Both were very integrated into an evangelical community that a few years ago inaugurated a new headquarters in the district, on Espronceda Street. The four of them attended there every Sunday.
