The Supreme Court has just lifted the precautionary measures imposed on businessman Víctor de Aldama, so he will be able to start traveling abroad to continue with his businesses. This was agreed by the Chamber that sentenced him to four and a half years in prison for corrupting the then Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos and his advisor Koldo García.

Until now, the investigating judge had imposed a ban on leaving the country, he was without a passport, and had to appear in court periodically to confirm his presence. After the conviction, the precautionary measures had not yet been withdrawn as the execution of the sentence had not proceeded due to a series of clarifications requested by the other two convicts.
However, and at Aldama’s request to be able to travel to Paraguay for a business trip, President Andrés Martínez Arrieta has agreed to lift the precautionary measures without having to wait for the execution of the sentence for Ábalos and García.

The sentence itself suspended the execution of Aldama’s conviction for having collaborated with justice to convict Ábalos, who has been sentenced to 24 years in prison. The ruling agreed to suspend the imposed custodial sentences, with certain precautions such as requiring the businessman to “appear semi-annually before this Court to report on his labor, commercial or business activities, verifying compliance with the legal system.”

Next business, an equestrian complex in Paraguay
Following this order, Aldama could travel from July 21 to 24 to Paraguay for a meeting with Marcelo Barchini, president of the company Mega Ex, to “hold work meetings, carry out technical visits, evaluate investment alternatives and continue developing the initiatives currently under study, mainly in the real estate sector and in the development of an international equestrian complex, which includes a racecourse, hotel, social club and complementary facilities.”
The trip is aimed, as Aldama himself explained to the Supreme Court, at his search for sources of income, “to continue developing his professional activity to generate sufficient economic income to cover his personal expenses and those of his family, particularly those of his minor daughter.”
