She won the Emmy and the Golden Globe, yes, but she wasn’t content with having found prestige in television; instead, she turned that temporary idyll with television into a stable relationship.

After finishing filming the second season of Scarpetta with Jamie Lee Curtis and Simon Baker in Nashville, the impression is that not a month goes by without news regarding Kidman’s projects. But how many series does the Oscar winner for The Hours have in the works, who also has the anticipated sequel to Practical Magic pending release in cinemas?

Nicole Kidman’s name carries weight. Add Jamie Lee Curtis, Oscar winner for Everything Everywhere All at Once, and the popularity of Patricia Cornwell’s novels, Kidman had enough ammunition to secure the production of a minimum of two seasons of Scarpetta on Prime Video. And, taking advantage of this guarantee, filming for the second season already finished this July after the successful premiere of the first in March.

The second season will adapt the novels Cruel and Unusual and The Body Farm, published in 1993 and 1994. In Cruel and Unusual, the literary forensic pathologist investigates the possible miscarriage of justice in executing a man for multiple murders. In The Body Farm, the character played by Kidman in the adaptation has to go to a body farm to investigate the murder of a young woman in a quiet town. New episodes are expected in 2027.

Here, Nicole Kidman’s role is secondary, but she has been on the payroll for three seasons and serves as executive producer alongside Taylor Sheridan, the creator, and Zoe Saldaña, the protagonist. It focuses on the special operation dedicated to training elite women to infiltrate the most hostile environments. In the third season, Saldaña’s character finds herself torn between duty and the possibility of her family being threatened, with Kidman as one of her few allies.

With eight new episodes, Kidman returns starting August 3rd on SkyShowtime. While Kidman is the supervisor, Morgan Freeman plays the Secretary of State. It cannot be ruled out that this espionage thriller could be renewed for a fourth season given the success of Taylor Sheridan’s productions (Yellowstone, Landman) on Paramount.

While not all of her productions are designed to receive critical acclaim, she had a knack for starting to develop Margo has money problems with David E. Kelley, the screenwriter she trusted for Big Little Lies, The Undoing, and Nine Perfect Strangers (and a Midas touch in the 90s, having created Ally McBeal and The Practice).

It’s the story of Margo, a young university student who has to drop out when she gets pregnant and finds a way to survive through OnlyFans. The main role goes to Elle Fanning; the mother’s role to Michelle Pfeiffer; but she embarked on a secondary role that doesn’t even appear in all episodes: a former wrestler who now works as a lawyer. Her comedic timing, impeccable.

While it didn’t get an Emmy nomination, the series has eight nominations, including best comedy series and mentions for Fanning, Pfeiffer, and Nick Offerman, and Apple TV already has a second season in the works. Filming begins in December.

The collaboration between Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman in Margo has money problems is proving so fruitful that they have another series in parallel. It’s a legal drama. When an intern at a prestigious law firm realizes that her firm makes people sign shady non-disclosure agreements (which she herself had to sign to work there), her trusting relationship with her mentor breaks down.

Discretion, which is based on Chandler Baker’s novel, has eight episodes secured on Paramount+ and is expected to begin filming in the fall. Josh Lucas (Palm Royale) will play Kidman’s husband, the lawyer who ensures that no secrets of the powerful can come to light.

This project has not yet received a green light but is in development for Prime Video from Blossom Films, Nicole Kidman’s production company. After working with screenwriter Jenna Lamia on The Perfect Couple, the actress has entrusted her with the adaptation of Jane Brazier’s novel Girls and Their Horses. The collaboration is understandable: it is also set in a wealthy community and also includes a murder.

“When the nouveau riche Parker family moves into an exclusive community in the heart of Southern California, they believe it’s their chance for a fresh start. Heather Parker is determined to give her daughters everything she didn’t have: starting with horses,” the synopsis states. Soon the matriarch discovers that making a place for herself in this world is as complicated for her as it is for her daughters… even dangerous. The interested platform is Prime Video.

Since 2019, when the second season aired, Big Little Lies has kept fans anxious: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley always expressed willingness to film more episodes, but it was unknown if they would ever find a gap in their schedules and if they would find a good enough story to return to the set. The death of Jean-Marc Vallée, director of the first season and involved as a producer in the second, also didn’t help in trusting a continuation.

However, Kidman always remained hopeful and has a third season in development. Francesca Sloane, screenwriter of Mr and Mrs Smith, is working on it based on Liane Moriarty’s literary sequel. The idea is to apply a time jump so that the characters of the stellar quintet are now mothers of teenagers (with all the problems that entails). For now, it is unknown when filming will begin, so no one should expect episodes on HBO Max before 2028.

And, as a producer, Kidman has one last project in development: a second season of The Perfect Couple that has not yet received a green light from Netflix. The idea is to adapt another novel by Elin Hildebrand with a new cast and a new creative team. This time Joanna Calo (The Bear) is in charge of the scripts based on the book Swan Song published in 2024.
