The judge requests Vodafone for the calls and messages from Jonathan Andic's mobile phone in Ecuador

On May 27, two days before Jonathan Andic’s defense showed a document on RAC1 with the call and message log that Isak Andic’s eldest son made during his lightning trip to Ecuador, the judge in Martorell investigating him for the homicide of his father ordered Vodafone to provide the call traffic from that device, as reported this Wednesday by El País and confirmed by this newspaper. Judge Raquel Nieto’s order responded to a request from the Mossos d’Esquadra, prior to the arrest of the founder of Mango’s son. The founder of Mango’s son arrived in Quito on March 24, 2025, and returned two days later, on the 26th, on a lightning work trip.

In her detention order, the judge states that Jonathan Andic’s phone, the same one he had on December 14, 2024, when his father died, disappeared in Ecuador “under strange circumstances.” For the magistrate, it is relevant that the theft of the phone in Quito, as the accused claims, coincides “with the information given by the media about the reopening” of the investigation.

References to that phone were conveniently used by the defense, which on Friday, May 29, showed the program host Jordi Basté on RAC1 a document with the call log in Ecuador, proving that Jonathan Andic’s phone did travel and connect during that work trip, contrary to what the police suspect.

In the 1,400-page case file, investigators note their suspicions that the phone had not traveled to Ecuador and that the accused used it as an alibi to make the device disappear, that the iPhone Health app, which measures data related to the phone owner’s health and physical activity, such as steps in a day, disconnected just before starting the trip to Ecuador and never became operational again.

Jonathan Andic was arrested on May 19 accused of being responsible for his father’s death during a hike they both took in December 2024 on the Camí de les Feixades in the Montserrat massif. For a year and a half, the Mossos d’Esquadra, with the approval of Judge Raquel Nieto and Prosecutor Teresa Yoldi, have worked to clarify whether the eldest son pushed his father or if he fell down the ravine accidentally, as the defense led by lawyer Cristóbal Martell claims. The evidence collected by the investigators led to the conclusion that the prosecutor and judge had enough grounds to formalize the homicide charge.

Martell last week filed a strong appeal in the Barcelona Court against the detention order, in which he refutes the evidence one by one.
