Zapatero states that he always conducted his public and private activities "with respect for legality"

Former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero released a video this Tuesday in which he wanted to respond to the notification he received this very morning from the National Court, summoning him as an investigated party – what was formerly called an “accused” – for June 2, for alleged corruption offenses in the case of the bailout of the airline Plus Ultra.

“I want to reaffirm that all my public and private activity has always been carried out with absolute respect for legality,” emphasized the former prime minister.

“My private activity, and the income and remunerations I have had, have been declared via IRPF, with absolute transparency and legality,” he defended.

Zapatero has shown his full willingness to cooperate with justice. “I want to reaffirm, with all firmness, that I have never carried out any management before any public administration or the public sector in relation to the bailout of Plus Ultra, nor before any other administration,” stressed the former prime minister, who had already defended this same position before the investigative commission opened in the Congress of Deputies.

“I have never had a commercial company, neither directly nor through third parties, neither in Spain nor outside Spain, nor have I participated in any operation of this type,” Zapatero assured in the video.

The former prime minister also announced that he will exercise his right to defense in this judicial process, “with all firmness and all conviction.”
