Man shot dead in the head on the street in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona

A man was shot dead this Saturday afternoon with a gunshot to the head while he was on Mineria Street in the Sants-Montjuïc district of Barcelona. The victim had a criminal record related to public health. A first citizen security police officer from the Mossos d’Esquadra, with the help of several passersby, tried to resuscitate the man without success.

“He killed him. He killed him,” was heard in the background from a young woman filming the attempts to save the individual’s life just a few meters away. Numerous witnesses heard the shots and some captured the scene of the bloodied victim on the ground with their phones.

On April 14, a 44-year-old man of Serbian nationality was also shot in the back and head while eating with his wife and his few-weeks-old daughter on a terrace in the heart of Poblenou, Barcelona. The victim died days later at the Hospital del Mar, where he was admitted in critical condition.

On May 8, another man, also of Serbian nationality, was shot and seriously injured in Lloret. These last two incidents are linked to the war that Balkan mafias are waging in several parts of mid-Europe, including Catalonia, with several deaths.

This latest fatal shooting in the Sants-Montjuïc district occurred in broad daylight, at seven in the evening, with Mineria Street full of pedestrians out for a walk on a Saturday afternoon. Investigators were able to gather accounts from some witnesses before starting to speak with the victim’s family to try to find the connection he had with his killer. Some of those witnesses stated that the shots were fired at close range and from behind.
