The residence, where the officers broke in after being alerted by neighbors, is located on Real Street, in the heart of Ceuta. The Civil Guard has proceeded to arrest the two owners of the apartment, a man and a woman.
Sources close to the investigation explain that, although this morning they found 25 people in the residence, there could have been more staying overnight.
So far, the circumstances under which the immigrants arrived at this particular apartment have not been disclosed: whether attracted by the arrested owners or if a larger criminal structure may be behind it.
A gang facilitating irregular immigration in El Príncipe dismantled
Also in Ceuta, the National Police have dismantled a criminal gang that was allegedly dedicated to facilitating irregular immigration and had obtained significant economic benefits by exploiting the vulnerability of people newly arrived in the autonomous city.
The investigations began after repeated presence of people was detected in the communal areas of a community garage in the El Príncipe neighborhood. Sometimes around twenty would gather, which alarmed the neighbors. The immigrants stayed in parking spaces, storage rooms, and other spaces for amounts around 30 euros daily, reaching up to 900 euros monthly.
The organization had also allegedly offered the possibility of transferring irregular migrants to the Peninsula for about 6,000 euros.
The operation was carried out by agents of the Fiscal and Border Company, with the support of personnel from the Citizen Security Unit of the Command (USECIC) and the Civil Guard Information Group, as well as the Local Police.
