Baldoví takes for granted that he, as síndic, will be the candidate "as it could not be otherwise"

“It may be a formality, but it is evident that the candidate for the Presidency of the Generalitat will be the person who is currently holding the Syndicate of the Compromís group, as it could not be otherwise.” With this firmness, the spokesperson in the Valencian Courts for the coalition, Joan Baldoví, expressed himself this Monday when asked about the Compromís candidacy in next year’s regional elections.

The syndic of the Valencianist formation had already shown willingness to lead the electoral list, but had not publicly expressed such a clear conviction that he would be the chosen person. With Mónica Oltra already designated to run for the Mayor of Valencia, there was little doubt that Baldoví would be the candidate for the Generalitat, but the truth is that this decision has not yet been formalized in the coalition’s internal bodies. And it will not be done this week, as the interested party himself indicated.

Despite this, Baldoví, in an intervention in the regional Parliament, justified his confidence after verifying that in the executives and in the municipalities he visits, his party colleagues express their desire for him to lead the Compromís candidacy. A situation he compared to what happens in the Valencian PP, where “Tellado or Esther [Muñoz] come and no one says to them: Juanfran [Pérez Llorca], you will be my chosen one.”

What Baldoví has not committed to is the format that will be chosen for his selection, as the formula is still being debated in the internal bodies. There are voices suggesting that the open primaries that Compromís boasted about years ago will not be chosen. The virtual candidate for the Generalitat has only advanced that the candidacy “will be ratified through a vote,” without specifying who will be able to vote in it.
