Operation underway to remove nearly a thousand immigrants who continue to spend the night on the streets of Ceuta. The Police have been coordinating since early Sunday morning the transfer of Moroccan people who were settled near the Embolsamiento, in Loma Margarita, where one of the first reception centers is located. The new places enabled amount to 864, according to sources from the Ministry of Migrations.

The surroundings of the Embolsamiento parking lot had become one of the most critical points in the city since the Government opened the first reception center there with 1,200 places. Many Moroccan migrants have been settled at the doors of the center for two weeks waiting to be able to enter, causing tension with the neighbors of the area. Today, around 07:00 hours, the Police began to wake them up, causing moments of confusion, as some thought they were going to be expelled, according to police sources.
But in reality, the police operation’s mission was to transfer them to the Los Rosales camp, where yesterday more than fifty workers were rapidly setting up the tents erected by Migrations. It is a plot owned by SEPES, ceded by the Ministry of Housing, next to a nursery that was scheduled to open at the start of this school year. The transfer was carried out without any incident.
The Police sat the group on the ground after covering a distance of just over a kilometer. And in groups of about twenty, they have been entering the facilities after being searched. They were forced to leave the food they kept in the bags in which they also carry the few belongings they have after crossing the Tarajal breakwater more than a month ago.

Minister Elma Saiz, who has been in Ceuta since Thursday, and the functional authority, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, have coordinated the operation. According to ministerial sources, work is also underway for the reception, as soon as possible, of more than 300 women with minors in a new space located on the esplanade of the Sidi Embarek mosque.
With today’s opening, there are around 4,300 places already enabled and, in the coming days, more than 6,000 temporary places will be exceeded. According to the president of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, about 14,000 people who entered massively on July 30 and 31 remain in the autonomous city.
