Alberto Núñez Feijóo continued outlining measures this Tuesday to address the Ceuta crisis and assured that if he becomes president of the Government, he will activate Article 8 of the Constitution to safeguard Spanish sovereignty if Morocco attempts to invade the autonomous city following the massive influx of immigrants at the end of July. “If I have to act and apply Article 8 of the Constitution, I will do so. That is what it is for. And Article 8 of the Constitution states that it is the responsibility of the armed forces, the Army, Air Force, and Navy to guarantee the territorial integrity of our country,” said the PP leader in an interview on Antena 3.
Feijóo maintained the accusations against Morocco and said that Rabat “consented” to the invasion of Ceuta, although he avoided stating whether it “encouraged” it: “The judge of the National Court points out that this is an attack on integrity and this is ordered from Morocco.” In this scenario, the PP leader said he will provide all the tools to intelligence services to alert of a possible invasion. “I have to secure the border and I will do so,” he added.
In this way, the PP leader continues to outline his proposals for the autonomous city, which revolve around three pillars: prevention to avoid the border being violated again, with the help of intelligence services and rejecting the “outsourcing” of border control; establishing relations with Morocco based on “loyalty,” but with firmness to stop any “aggression” and demand the return of immigrants remaining in Ceuta; and activating the full capacity of the State to transfer those people “in accordance with the Migration and Asylum Pact and the Return Regulation.”

The PP leader also recalled that he had a conversation with the Moroccan prime minister and refused to offer a stance on the Sahara because he does not know what Sánchez has agreed with Rabat. “I had a meeting with the Moroccan prime minister some time ago and he asked me if I was in favor of maintaining and would maintain the agreements on Western Sahara. I answered that I want to be loyal to his country and that loyalty leads me to respond with the rigor it deserves: I cannot commit,” he said.

Feijóo also did not want to specify it this Tuesday and said he will explain it in the Cortes and it will be voted on. “When we have the information on exactly what Mr. Sánchez has unilaterally agreed, which is not Spain with Morocco, regarding Western Sahara, we will take a position on it and convey it to the Cortes, which is where foreign policy decisions are made.”
Feijóo also rejected that the documents the Government is going to publish about the police reports from the days prior to the invasion will be reliable. “Those reports are cut,” he said, before demanding that the CNI director “tell the Secrets Commission the information the Government had.”
