New chapter in the criminal case against the co-founder and CEO of Glovo, Oscar Pierre, for a crime against the labor rights of his delivery workers. Now the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Barcelona has asked the judge to issue the summary procedure order to conclude the investigation phase and finally send the Catalan entrepreneur to trial, as reported this Friday by elDiario.es and confirmed by La Vanguardia. The public prosecutor considers that “there is sufficient evidence of a crime” against the workers to prosecute Pierre.

The decision now rests with the investigating judge, who, after receiving the requests from both parties, must decide whether to open the oral trial against the Glovo co-founder or dismiss the case. Defense sources, led by Cristóbal Martell, explain that they have not yet been notified of the request by the Prosecutor’s Office. In July, Pierre’s lawyers requested the dismissal of the investigation. In his statement, the entrepreneur criticized the Labor Inspectorate accusing it of acting with “bias and a revenue-raising agenda” and defended that his contractual model with the riders was fully legal in Spain.
The investigation into the Glovo co-founder began in 2024, when the 31st investigative court of Barcelona opened preliminary proceedings following the Prosecutor’s Office’s complaint against the entrepreneur. In December of that year, Pierre testified during the investigation phase, as did other senior executives and delivery workers of the home delivery platform. In fact, one day before this appearance, Glovo announced that it would start hiring its riders as employees and that it was abandoning the self-employed model.
The case against Pierre also includes the popular accusation exercised by the CGT union, which already opposed the dismissal of the investigation arguing that the company had imposed “illegal conditions” on its employees continuously.
