The trial against Lindsay Clancy, accused of murdering her three children in the Plymouth (Massachusetts) court, is wrapped in a great deal of drama that has captured the United States. But this Thursday, a week after deliberations began and after 35 hours of debate, the tension reached its peak after the jury again communicated, for the third consecutive day, that there is no way to reach a unanimous decision.

This sparked a heated discussion between the defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, and Judge William Sullivan, who presides over the hearing. For the third day, the magistrate again asked the jury members, nine women and three men, to try again, against the lawyer’s opinion. The judge reminded them of their obligation to follow his instructions on “reasonable doubt,” meaning that “high probability” is not enough, but “full conviction” is required.
However, at that moment it became known that everything hinges on one of the members, just one, who is blocking a possible verdict. It is not clear in whose favor the other eleven are, although both the prosecutor and the defense wanted to see the balance in their favor.
“The jury has been working for a week, saying that there is one member who refuses to abide by the law you have explained to them about reasonable doubt and, respectfully, I request that this juror be dismissed,” Reddington asked the judge.
“I raise what the deliberations are, who is right, who is wrong, and we should not try to find out because that is part of the deliberations,” replied the prosecutor.
The judge noted that dismissing a juror while deliberating is “a delicate matter” and added that “he does not consider it appropriate to side with one or the other party, nor to agree with one juror or the other eleven.”

That said, he cleared the courtroom while the jury members had already returned to the deliberation room. Previously, the magistrate briefly questioned all the jurors under oath, one by one, who in all cases seemed to agree to his request. The prosecutor agreed with this initiative. The presiding judge also spoke privately with the accused herself.
The jury deliberation continued, although for a short time before the judge sent them home and summoned them to continue their work this Friday under the insistence of that reasonable doubt, a concept that divides the country.
Numerous people have taken the side of Clancy, who admitted to the acts but pleaded not guilty to the charges of first-degree murder for the death of her three children — Cora, 5 years old; Dawson, 3 years old; and Callan, 8 months old — at their home in Duxbury on January 24, 2023. Everything happened while her husband had gone out to pick up prepared food.
The accused, a nurse by profession, made this declaration of innocence due to suffering postpartum trauma, which she communicated without receiving medical attention. After killing her children by strangulation with a gym elastic band, she took pills, cut herself with a knife, and jumped from the second floor of her house. She was left paralyzed and uses a wheelchair.
