The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has once again criticized the Government for its management of the migration crisis that Ceuta is still experiencing, a crisis “of unprecedented magnitude,” which “affects the territorial integrity of Spain, our sovereignty,” and against which “the Government decided to close for vacation, to be absent.” That is why he has announced that he will fight politically and judicially. In the first area, Feijóo has demanded the appearance of the director of the CNI to clarify the “contradictions” into which the ministers of the central Government have fallen regarding whether there were prior warnings or not before the “invasion” by the intelligence service, and in the judicial area he has announced that his party will appear in the judicial case opened in the National Court so that “those responsible for the abandonment” are held accountable before justice.

At the traditional opening event of the political course that the Populars hold in Cerdedo Cotobade (Pontevedra), Feijóo, accompanied by the president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, and the former president of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, warned that “there must be consequences” in the face of “the greatest national sovereignty crisis” that Spain has suffered. And it is that “the Spanish have the right to know what happened,” he said in reference to the political controversy generated by the different versions given by the Minister of Defense about the warnings of the assault on the border in the days prior to July 30.
The head of the ministry, Margarrita Robles, assured in Congress that the CNI issued some warnings about the increase in immigrant entries in the days prior, but these warnings were not urgent or precise enough, as was later made clear by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. So much so that the rest of the ministers, including the one chosen to lead the crisis, the Minister of Territorial Policy Ángel Víctor Torres, reaffirmed the version of the Interior Minister.
“Those responsible for the abandonment will have to appear and be held accountable before justice”
Feijóo has subscribed to this controversy, lamenting that “the ministers contradict each other” and “their appearances have been pathetic.” For the leader of the PP, “someone is lying and I think they are all lying,” he criticized. It was then that Feijóo demanded the appearance of the director of the CNI, “committing to telling the truth,” to clarify “what the Government knew before the invasion.” The PP’s plan is for the director of the Spanish intelligence agency, Esperanza Casteleiro, to appear in the Senate, where the Populars have an absolute majority and can decide the most appropriate time for such an appearance.
Feijóo has emphasized that this “abandonment” of the situation in Ceuta for “a month” must have consequences: “How are we going to accept that the greatest crisis of sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country in centuries has no consequences?” he demanded. But he also held the Government’s partners co-responsible for the situation. “Those who are supporting the Government are also responsible. There are no heroes or villains in Sanchismo; they are all villains. There is no good PSOE and bad PSOE, and there is no decent alternative left. It has merged with Sanchismo because they say the same, vote the same and govern the same. They deserve the same result at the polls,” he demanded.
Call to participate in the rally organized by the FEMP on September 2 in all town halls
In his speech, the leader of the PP also emphasized the Spanishness of Ceuta and Melilla and urged citizens to participate in the rally in front of all the town halls of the municipalities of Spain organized by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), chaired by the PP, for September 2 at 8:00 p.m., coinciding with Ceuta Day. Feijóo has informed that he will be present in the autonomous city to participate in that rally.

“Ceuta is Spain. Ceuta and Melilla are as Spanish as Madrid, Barcelona or Málaga. They have been Spanish for centuries. They are not second-class territories” and “Spain does not abandon its own, Spain defends itself (…) that is why on September 2 I will be in Ceuta, it is more than ever the day of all Spain. We will all be in the squares of the town halls of Spain to tell the people of Ceuta that we will not abandon you,” he proclaimed.
The leader of the opposition also had words of recognition for the Army and the security forces who have had to face this crisis in the city. “They have fulfilled, those who have not fulfilled are those who command them, they leave them sold out and overwhelmed.” Thus, he also denounced the conditions in which they have had to work, to the point that “seeing them flee because they do not have the means to defend themselves against immigrants from Morocco is outrageous for our nation.” In his opinion, “those who protect us deserve means, respect and dignity” and “there is more dignity in a Police and Civil Guard barracks than in the entire Government of Spain,” he reproached.
Elections
Promises “to win with the necessary force so that those who have lost cannot govern”
Feijóo has expanded on his criticism of the Government’s management of this crisis, but he has also put on the electoral campaign suit, convinced that there will be general elections in the new political course and not only municipal and regional elections. In this sense, he has promised to “democratically break the decadence into which they have led us” and a “profound change” that will bring “cleanliness, certainties, security in the streets, at the borders, in homes and in the future.”
As a future candidate for the general elections, Feijóo has warned that he is not satisfied with winning but wants to “do so with the necessary force so that those who have lost cannot govern.” “I do not want to reach Moncloa simply because of the failure of Sanchismo, but because I know what must be done after Sánchez, and I assure you that I will do it. I will not be a perfect president, but I will be a present president,” he promised.
