Ayuso, Erola Jons and everyone’s money

Ayuso, Erola Jons and everyone's money

Aside from Ceuta, this has been a juicy week in two matters of heated debate. The super-luxury penthouse of the Community of Madrid for Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the signing of the lively Erola Jons, supposedly to liven up the Vuelta a España cycling race.

Notice that there are reasonable similarities between the two stories.

To begin with, both protagonists – one from Madrid, the other from Sant Fruitós de Bages – have made their irreverence a hallmark of their identity. Until the events of these days, both had been mass leaders with wind in their sails and streetwise speech.

One, consecrated in the political Olympus of Madrid (absolute majority in 2023). The other, anointed goddess on social networks (6.5 million followers). They are as different as chalk and cheese, although they do have something in common: an arrogance that in the first usually leads to pride and in the second, to ignorance.

More reasonable similarities.

Ayuso could not have had a worse outcome with the public purchase of the penthouse. Some already predict it will cost her electorally. Erola, the influencer – and so-called actress – is expected to fall from grace soon.

But let’s get to the facts.

In April, the public company Planifica Madrid acquires a residence in the Chamberí neighborhood as the official residence of the president. For 6.3 million euros! A dazzling penthouse of 480 m2, with 200 of terrace. Can anyone imagine such a flat and relate it to administrative offices? No, of course not. Why that particular penthouse? Why a penthouse and not a commercial space? Why rule out any of the headquarters already owned by the Community of Madrid? Who makes the decision?

Citizens watch in astonishment the total absence of the slightest coherent explanation from Ayuso’s team. That the Community puts the aforementioned flat up for sale does not extinguish the flames and we will see if it all ends in a legal tangle. Neither “goodbye fish” nor nonsense. I suppose there will be those who support such folly, but I cannot find them.

Between the public purchase of the penthouse and the signing of an influencer for the Vuelta, there are similarities

Nor can I find anyone who likes Erola Jons’ comments about the tight leggings of the “handsome Pogachitar” (Tadej Pogačar). Not a single cycling fan. It is indefensible to hand over on a silver platter to a “content creator” (trash content) a professional sports space to turn it into a meme stage. A logical response from the Vuelta as to why they thought it was a good idea is still awaited. This cycling competition receives every year, in institutional funding, 4.7 million just in direct contracts and state subsidies.

Ayuso’s penthouse, Erola Jons’ show… And the general feeling of citizens that they are being taken for fools. That is indeed a reasonable similarity between these two Martian stories. No, not everything goes with public money. Everyone’s money.
