Russia is said to have established secret bases capable of launching high-powered drones that could reach NATO countries, according to The Telegraph newspaper this Monday. According to the investigation by that newspaper, there are ten Kremlin bases equipped with newly built launch platforms for Moscow’s most advanced long-range suicide drones.

Some of these bases are already being used to intensively attack Ukraine, but they also represent a long-term threat to NATO allies, placing them within reach of Russia’s high-tech attack drones. This rapidly evolving technology could eventually turn against Europe if a war breaks out, as some of the bases position Russia’s most powerful drones at a distance that allows them to reach Warsaw.

The British newspaper also states that European and U.S. intelligence officials believe Russia is considering carrying out an armed provocation on Polish soil, missile or drone attacks against critical infrastructure. A NATO official told the newspaper that the military alliance is “prepared to defend every inch of allied territory” and will continue strengthening its “deterrence and defense capability against any threat, including drones.”
According to satellite image analysis, the newspaper identified several new launch ramps used for drone takeoff along the Russian border with Belarus and Ukraine. Some of the drone operation bases have been converted from military facilities and civilian airports, while additional launch platforms have been enabled in rural areas of Russia.

The use of a modified version of the Iranian Shahed drone would put the Polish capital within reach of Russian attacks
Image analysis conducted by DroneSec, an intelligence company specializing in drones, revealed that some newly installed ramps appeared to be longer, indicating their capacity to launch the Kremlin’s latest long-range attack drones. The newspaper emphasizes that Moscow has been rapidly modernizing its version of the Iranian Shahed drone, deploying newer variants powered by jet engines and capable of reaching targets nearly 1,000 kilometers away.
The use of these new variants from the identified bases would put the Polish capital within reach of Russian attacks, although there is no indication that Russia plans such an attack. Nevertheless, NATO leaders are preparing for a possible future conflict, it adds.
