Zinedine Zidane has officially begun his tenure as the new head coach of France and, just a few days after his presentation, the figures of the contract that will bind him to the French Football Federation (FFF) until the 2030 World Cup have been revealed. Although during his presentation it was emphasized that the financial aspect was never an obstacle to reaching the agreement, a French media outlet has disclosed the salary the coach will receive and the bonuses that could significantly increase his income.

According to RMC Sport, Zidane will earn a fixed salary of 3.6 million euros per season as the head coach of France. However, that amount could rise to 5.4 million annually if he meets the sporting objectives set in his contract thanks to a system of performance bonuses.
If these figures are confirmed, the former Real Madrid coach would become the highest-paid French national team coach in history, even surpassing the contract Didier Deschamps had.
The Federation avoids talking about money
Although the figures have already come to light, the French Football Federation continues to maintain confidentiality about Zinedine Zidane’s contract.
Its president, Philippe Diallo, avoided revealing the salary of the new head coach and assured that money was never the main issue during negotiations. “Frankly, it’s not a matter of money,” he said in an interview with France Inter.
Diallo explained that talks with Zidane began in February 2025 and that, from the very beginning, the sporting project was the focus of the negotiations. “When we started talking, we didn’t talk about money, but about the desire to build a team that would win titles again,” he noted.
The French official also insisted that fans do not expect to know the coach’s salary, but to see France fighting again for major international championships.
A contract until the 2030 World Cup
Zinedine Zidane signed a four-season contract that will link him with the French national team until the conclusion of the 2030 World Cup.
His arrival ends Didier Deschamps’ era, who remained in charge of the national team for fourteen years and won the 2018 World Cup, as well as reaching the final of Qatar 2022.
