The highway was completely closed this Monday at 20:44 after two trucks collided side by side at kilometer 200, at the height of Santa Margarida i Els Monjos (Barcelona), and the aerosols carried by one of them caught fire.
This fire caused a large deflagration, visible from different points in the area, which led the emergency phone 112 to receive more than 90 calls, the Government reported in a press release.
In response to this situation, the Civil Protection of the Generalitat of Catalonia activated the special emergency plan for accidents involving the transport of hazardous goods by road and rail in Catalonia (TRANSCAT).

Additionally, the Firefighters of the Generalitat deployed up to 15 units, which proceeded with extinguishing the flames and confirmed that the two drivers were unharmed.
The flames also spread to the edges of the highway, so the teams had to deal with a vegetation fire heading towards Tarragona and another towards Barcelona.
The Medical Emergency System of Catalonia (SEM) activated two ambulances and a joint team with the Firefighters, who attended to the drivers, who did not require hospital transfer.
