Can you imagine sending a WhatsApp message without touching the phone? Capturing a photograph exactly from the point of view of your own eyes with just a voice command? What until very recently seemed like a scene from science fiction is beginning to quietly settle into everyday life thanks to the new Ray-Ban Meta. An accessory that combines artificial intelligence, camera, sound, and voice control with a clear premise: to make technology stop interrupting moments and simply start accompanying them.

That idea hovered over the last Meet the Tech meeting held at the Espai Movistar in Barcelona alongside content creator Carmen Santaella, who defended the possibilities of a device designed especially for “restless, busy people who don’t want to miss details of what’s happening to them.” Because, as she explained, that is precisely one of the great virtues of the glasses: allowing you to take photos, record videos, answer calls, listen to music, or check information without constantly having to resort to the mobile phone.

Technology that makes daily life easier

“When you’re doing several things at once, taking out the phone sometimes breaks the moment,” Santaella assured. The influencer gave as an example everyday situations that previously seemed incompatible with capturing spontaneous memories. “If I’m playing with my son or carrying him in my arms, I can simply say ‘Hey Meta’ and take a photo without stopping or missing what’s happening.”

The content creator explained that she regularly uses the integrated assistant to resolve quick doubts or make inquiries through artificial intelligence while walking or doing other tasks. “You end up getting used to asking things constantly,” she commented. “Sometimes it seems like you’re talking to yourself on the street and people look at you strangely, but in reality, you’re talking to the glasses.”

The scene caused smiles among the attendees at the Meet The Tech event at Espai Movistar because it quite well summarizes one of the silent changes this technology proposes: the gradual disappearance of screens as the central element of interaction. The voice command replaces the gesture of unlocking the phone, searching for an app, or typing manually. And everything happens practically in the background.

An event full of experiences and surprises

The Meet The Tech meeting was full of demonstrations and a few surprises. The feeling that technology can make some routine tasks much easier became even more evident when a simple instruction allowed taking a photo and automatically sending it via WhatsApp to then project it moments later on a giant screen. An apparently simple demonstration, but enough to draw applause and hint at how much these types of devices are beginning to integrate actions that until now required several steps and different devices.

Beyond photography or video recording, another aspect that aroused the most curiosity was the potential of artificial intelligence applied to everyday situations. From culinary suggestions made from specific ingredients to the possibility of receiving simultaneous translations practically in real time. One of the most talked-about examples was that of a British chef whose speech could be heard directly in Spanish thanks to the translation system incorporated in the glasses.

For Santaella, the key is precisely in that mix between usefulness and naturalness. She recalled, for example, a recent horseback ride during which she was able to record images without having to take the phone out of her pocket. “It was a very special moment and I wanted to live it, not be focused on the phone,” she recounted. “The glasses allowed me to keep the memory without breaking the experience.”

The influencer also highlighted the emotional component of the product and said she considers it “a perfect gift” for curious or permanently busy people. In fact, she admitted she already has in mind who will be the next recipient of a pair of Ray-Ban Meta. “My father is always doing things, always busy, always inventing something… and I think he would really enjoy them.”

The day ended with the raffle of a pair of glasses among the attendees and with the shared feeling that artificial intelligence is beginning to definitively leave the realm of the futuristic to settle into gestures as everyday as looking, listening, asking, or remembering.
