The president of Banco Sabadell, Josep Oliu, and the CEO, César González-Bueno, handed over the 32,000 euros raised with the “Aces solidarios” campaign at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell – Trofeo Conde de Godó, which this year celebrates its 73rd edition and of which the entity is the main sponsor.

This is an initiative by which Banco Sabadell donates an amount for each ace (or direct service point) that players score during the tournament. Since 2008, 60 organizations have benefited from these “Aces solidarios” which have accumulated more than 460,000 euros since then.

This year the initiative has been dedicated monographically to rare diseases. At the event, aid of 8,000 euros was given to each of the four selected entities -Fundación Retos Azules, Proyecto Familia Azul, Fundación Querer, Asociación Española Mutación Gen IQSEC2 and Asociación Española Síndrome Schaaf-Yang-, reaffirming the entity’s commitment to inclusion, research and support for affected families.

The president of Banco Sabadell, Josep Oliu, stressed that this act increases the Group’s social commitment by recognizing social entities and individuals who dedicate their efforts to those who need it most. “We want to support these institutions by giving them a platform to disseminate the work they do, whose daily life is based on improving the lives of others and helping in the most complicated moments.” “We hope that research can tackle these diseases in the nearest possible future,” Oliu indicated.

Representing the foundations, Empar Cebrián, president of the Spanish Association for IQSEC2 Gene Mutation; Ricardo Fernández, secretary of the Spanish Association for Schaaf-Yang Syndrome; Gonzalo Alba, trustee of the Fundación Retos Azules; and Pilar García de la Granja, president of the Fundación Querer, attended the awards ceremony.

The representatives of the entities that this year received the proceeds from the aces explained the actions they carry out in their organizations, and thanked Banco Sabadell for the initiative. All representatives agreed to highlight the importance that the gesture and the support it provides to their work has for their organizations.
For Banco Sabadell, this tournament and the solidarity actions carried out around it are a way of linking the entity’s corporate values with sports values, and especially with those of tennis, a sport of fair play and principles such as effort, the desire for self-improvement, and respect. In addition, it reinforces its commitment to purpose-driven banking, supporting projects that generate real social impact and contribute to advancing towards a more just, inclusive, and supportive society.

Fundación Retos Azules – Proyecto Familia Azul
Familia Azul is the fifth Blue Challenge promoted by the Fundación Retos Azules, in collaboration with FEDER. The project aims to improve the quality of life of 100 families with children with rare or undiagnosed diseases, combining direct financial aid of up to 3,000 euros per family with a powerful social awareness campaign. The challenge foresees a total funding of 300,000 euros and will be developed between 2025 and 2026 under criteria of rigor, transparency and high social impact.
Fundación Querer
Created in 2016, Fundación Querer is a non-profit organization dedicated to education, research and social awareness in relation to children with special educational needs derived from neurological diseases, especially language disorders. Integrated into FEDER’s Network of Direct Care Centers, the foundation promotes multidisciplinary teams to advance in diagnosis, research and educational inclusion, with an innovative, inclusive and equity-based vision.
Asociación Española Mutación Gen IQSEC2
The association supports families affected by the IQSEC2 genetic mutation, a rare disease that affects brain development, causing intellectual disability, difficult-to-control epilepsy, autism spectrum behaviors, and motor and communication difficulties. Given the absence of a cure, its work focuses on supporting families, promoting scientific research, and social awareness as the only way to improve the quality of life of patients.
Asociación Española Síndrome Schaaf-Yang
Created in 2019 by families of affected individuals, AESYS works to give visibility to Schaaf-Yang syndrome, an ultra-rare genetic disease caused by mutations in the MAGEL2 gene, with only 19 cases diagnosed in Spain. The association offers comprehensive support to families, promotes research, and actively collaborates with scientific institutions, such as Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and the University of Barcelona, in addition to promoting outreach actions and solidarity events throughout the territory.
