The agenda of Pope Leo XIV on his visit to Spain kicked off this Saturday in Madrid with his meeting with the Kings and the vigil in Plaza Lima. For the significant occasion, the Kings showcased their respect for institutional protocol through appropriate and coherent stylings for the event.

While King Felipe VI opted for a yellow tie as a nod to the Vatican, Queen Letizia has retrieved a design from her wardrobe and decided to avail herself of the white privilege, a right reserved exclusively for Catholic queens by which they are allowed to dress in white before the Pontiff.

The piece, signed by the Madrid brand The 2nd skin, was already worn by her during her State visit to Egypt. It is a white dress made of guipure lace on cotton batiste with floral motifs on a natural silk organza base.

Fitted at the waist with a belt, long-sleeved and with a round neck, the design is elegant and perfectly adapts to the protocol that requires a length below the knee and covered shoulders.
It is not the first time that Letizia has exercised the white privilege. The Queen opted for a very similar design to attend an audience with Pope Leo XIV in March at the Vatican and chose a white design combined with a mantilla to witness the beginning of Leo XIV’s papacy in May 2025.
