Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, announced yesterday in New York the pact reached between his country and Morocco to strengthen their diplomatic relations and establish embassies within the framework of the Abraham Accords promoted by the President of the United States, Donald Trump. The two countries held a summit with Washington’s endorsement for the normalization of their relations, which concluded with this agreement considered historic by the Tel Aviv representative.

“The Jewish people have deep historical roots in Morocco. As our nations come closer, this new framework of relations will benefit both countries,” Danon said at the doors of the United Nations Security Council.

After ratifying this pact, both countries commit to strengthening their diplomatic relations through the reopening of embassies in both countries and the promotion of economic cooperation. In 2000, the two countries closed their foreign offices after the Second Intifada in September of that year. The agreement includes the expansion of direct flights between the two nations and mutual investment.
According to what the United States ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, wrote on X, the pact also includes the “reaffirmation of the United States’ recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.” “The skeptics were wrong. Six years after its signing, the Abraham Accords have withstood all tests,” Waltz added.
The American diplomat received the Israeli Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, and the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Naser Burita, to celebrate an agreement already announced by Washington in December 2020. Two years later, Israel announced its plans to establish an embassy, but until now the exchange of legations had not been formalized or announced.
