The investigation into the death of Nikoline, the 17-year-old Norwegian teenager who died after being hit on the A-7 while enjoying a vacation on the Costa del Sol, advanced this Tuesday with the arrest of a man as the alleged perpetrator of the hit-and-run. The Civil Guard officers are trying to confirm whether the van undergoing a forensic inspection was the vehicle that struck the young woman and whose driver fled without stopping.

The arrest comes after more than a week of investigations focused on reconstructing the victim’s last movements and identifying the vehicle involved. During the first days after finding the young woman’s lifeless body, the evidence suggested that Nikoline might have been run over by a truck. However, the analysis of the traces collected on the road and the review of various security cameras led investigators to another hypothesis, that of a Ford van with damage consistent with the impact.
The accident occurred at 5:20 a.m. on July 6, at kilometer 1,027 of the A-7 highway, heading towards Marbella. Several drivers alerted 112 that a young woman had been hit on the road. When emergency services arrived, they could no longer do anything to save her life. The responsible driver had disappeared.

The victim had arrived on the Costa del Sol days earlier with her family to follow the Norwegian national football team. The night before the accident, she attended the match between Norway and Brazil and then went out with several friends to celebrate her team’s victory. She was last seen at a nightclub in Marbella during the early morning. Shortly after, her trail was lost. Her mother reported her disappearance after failing to contact her, and hours later, it was confirmed that the body found next to the highway belonged to the teenager.

Beyond identifying the driver, the main mystery remains how the minor ended up walking on a highway. That question continues to shape the investigation. The proceedings suggest that, after leaving the entertainment venue, the young woman took a ride in a vehicle with a driver and asked to get off before reaching her destination. Officers are trying to find out if any incident occurred during that trip that explains why she ended up in an area reserved exclusively for vehicular traffic.
The Civil Guard maintains several lines of investigation open. While the detainee is giving a statement, specialists are examining the seized van to determine if the damage it shows is consistent with the hit-and-run and if the evidence collected places it at the accident scene. The outcome of this process will be decisive in clarifying one of the events that has caused the most shock this summer in this part of the Malaga province.
