The Civil Guard has arrested a man for sexually assaulting a woman on a bus near Baamonde, in the municipality of Begonte (Lugo), on a regular line that ran the route between Viveiro and A Coruña.

The incident occurred when the vehicle was passing through Baamonde; at that moment, the now arrested man sat next to the victim, covered her legs with a sweatshirt, and began touching her without her consent.
The victim immediately alerted about what happened, which caused the aggressor to hastily leave the bus at the Baamonde stop and flee the scene. After the complaint filed by the victim, an investigation was initiated to clarify the criminal acts.
In a statement, the Civil Guard reports that “thanks to the collaboration of the passengers and the bus driver who witnessed the assault, along with the testimony of the victim, it was possible to obtain a very precise physical description of the suspect.”

The investigators analyzed the images from the surveillance cameras at the stations where the bus stopped, which allowed them to locate the alleged perpetrator at the Lugo bus station. The police inquiries revealed that the suspect was staying at a hostel in Lugo and had recent police records for similar offenses. A surveillance operation was established that culminated in the location and arrest of the perpetrator.
The investigation has been carried out by the Civil Guard investigation area of Vilalba (Lugo). The detainee and the police proceedings have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary.
