The first vice president and minister of the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, explained, during a visit to Granada due to the earthquakes, that experts continue the review work to understand the impact of the tremors on the monument, which was evacuated this noon and has remained closed.

The first visual inspection has not shown structural damage that would indicate a risk of collapse, according to Sanz, although some situations have been detected in non-structural elements that do not endanger the monument.

The most affected part is the Alcazaba, with impact on battlements and other elements, all minor in nature.

In the Nasrid Palaces, specifically in the Throne Room, the earthquakes have caused the fall of decorative elements, such as plasterwork.

On the other hand, Sanz explained that, since the early hours of Saturday, with the first earthquake of this series, intensity 5 and epicenter in Alhendín, the emergency service 112 has managed 1,871 incidents, more than half a thousand this Tuesday.

According to Sanz, everything seems to indicate that the seismic movement affecting the Vega de Granada resembles the “seismic swarm” recorded on the northern slope in 2021.
