The Valencian government sent an ES-Alert this afternoon to the residents of Catí, located inland in Castellón with more than 700 inhabitants, asking them to evacuate the town via the CV-128 or N-232 roads towards Xert. Its residents had been confined since yesterday due to the smoke from the Tírig fire, and this afternoon the next instructions were to be decided at the 5 p.m. Cecopi, and finally Emergencies issued the alert.
The fire declared in Sierra de Engarcerán, inland Castellón, has already been stabilized and controlled, as has the one in Culla, but the work of the Emergencies teams is now focused on the one in Tírig, the town where the Advanced Command Post was moved yesterday. The Minister of Emergencies and Interior, Juan Carlos Valderrama, explained this Sunday after the first Cecopi of the morning that the cause could be the dry storms that have hit inland Castellón since Friday, when the fire was declared.
Likewise, Valderrama reported this morning that last night there was another small fire in Palanques, in Els Ports, which was quickly extinguished. “We all have to be alert to prevent or deal with any kind of fire,” the minister requested referring to the eclipse and the possible storms that may also occur this Sunday.

Regarding the burned area, it amounts to 395 hectares and a perimeter of about 15 kilometers. Work continued this morning and throughout today 19 aerial units, 300 personnel, and 50 ground units are working to extinguish a fire whose smoke already forced Emergencies yesterday to send the ES-Alert to confine the population of Catí.
For his part, Antonio Rodrigo, technical director of the ACP, explained that the agents are working in two zones, north (which affects Catí) and south (which involves Tírig) with “all available resources.” Rodrigo explained that the relative humidity of the night had helped a lot to contain the fire, as the fuel had absorbed moisture and that facilitated containing the fire. Likewise, the support of aerial resources since 8 a.m. aims to impact the extinction.
