The Foral Community of Navarre mourns the loss of five of its police officers, who died this Wednesday in a tragic traffic accident. This morning, several authorities from the region visited the funeral home where the victims’ remains rest, to offer their condolences and comfort to the families.

The President of the Government of Navarre, María Chivite, and the President of the Parliament of Navarre, Unai Hualde, went together to the funeral home, around 2 PM, to convey their condolences. Both were accompanied by the First Vice President of the Government of Navarre, Javier Remírez, and the Minister of Interior, Public Function and Justice, Inma Jurío. They were received at the funeral home entrance by the head of the Foral Police, Iván Ortueta.

In addition, throughout the morning, numerous commanders from other police forces attended the funeral home, including the chief colonel of the Civil Guard of Navarre, José Miguel Barbero, and the chief of the Municipal Police of Pamplona, Antonio Sánchez, as well as members of the National Police and the Army, who conveyed their expressions of affection to the members of the Foral Police.
Other institutional representatives also went to the funeral home, such as the Mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asiron, accompanied by the Councillor for Security and Coexistence, Endika Alonso; the former President of the Government of Navarre and Geroa Bai senator, Uxue Barkos, and the delegated Councillor for Economic Promotion, European Projection, Innovation, Youth and Development Cooperation of Pamplona, Mikel Armendariz.
The Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN) party also sent a large representation of its group in the Parliament of Navarre, led by spokesperson Javier Esparza, accompanied by regionalist parliamentarians Cristina López, Ángel Ansa, Juan Luis Sánchez de Muniáin, and Miguel Bujanda.

The Foral Police expressed this Thursday its “most sincere gratitude for the countless displays of affection, respect, and solidarity” received from society and institutions, and highlighted the minute of silence observed in the Parliament of Navarre at 9:45 AM and subsequently simultaneously at 12 PM in all police stations and buildings of the foral community where it provides service, acts of remembrance attended by members of the force.
A multitude of Foral police officers, in uniform or plainclothes, went to the funeral home to express their condolences, as did agents from other forces, such as a National Police intervention team, who arrived with a wreath of flowers.
The expressions of affection and sorrow were repeated at different times throughout the day. President María Chivite conveyed “the condolences of the entire Government, mine, and all Navarrese citizens” to the families of the five agents and highlighted that the Foral Police is “the most beloved institution.”
“It is demonstrated at these moments because the expressions of sympathy, condolences, and affection have been overwhelming, not only from the citizens of Navarre but from all over Spain, and I wanted to convey that to the families,” she stated.
