Five days after publicly announcing that she had terminal cancer, British soprano Felicity Lott has passed away at the age of 79. The singer, who had been ill for a year, had recently announced that she would donate some of her costumes for a charity auction aimed at a palliative care center, where she was also informed that the disease was progressing irreversibly.

According to her representative, she faced the process “with great dignity and acceptance,” maintaining until the end the elegance and serenity that marked her entire career. Felicity Lott was one of the great figures of European opera in recent decades.
Admired for the elegance of her singing, musical intelligence, and interpretative sensitivity, she developed a career especially linked to Mozart, Richard Strauss, the French repertoire, and the lied.
After training at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she gained international recognition on stages such as the Royal Opera House, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
Her career included iconic roles such as the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Arabella, and Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites, as well as significant activity as a recitalist and specialist in French song.
