A thermal burst knocks down trees and rips off awnings in the interior of Alicante

The consequences of the heatwave that has been prolonged these days on the Mediterranean coast are varied and, at times, dangerous. Firefighters from Alicante had to intervene yesterday Tuesday afternoon in five places due to a thermal burst in the towns of Elda and Petrer. Due to the strong gusts of wind that swept through the two towns, several trees fell, as well as several awnings, fortunately without causing injuries. Between 5:20 PM and 8:06 PM, there were fifteen firefighter interventions in different parts of the province.

Given the weather forecast for tonight, Wednesday, the Provincial Firefighters Consortium kept two special night shifts active due to atmospheric phenomena, which have monitored the areas where a large number of lightning strikes occurred yesterday throughout the night.

According to the consortium, the aim was to prevent a possible dormant lightning strike from causing a fire hours after it had fallen. The personnel remained on site all night, from 9 PM until 8 AM this morning.
