A man in his 60s pleaded guilty on Monday to systematically drugging and raping his wife at their home for more than two decades. During a hearing at the Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, the defendant admitted a total of 60 charges just before the start of his trial.

The defendant, whose identity has not been revealed by legal mandate to protect the victim’s anonymity, acknowledged 45 offenses in addition to 15 others he had previously admitted. Among all the accepted charges are 21 counts of rape, 15 of assault by penetration, 11 of sexual assault, attempted rape, one for sharing intimate images without consent, and one offense for intentionally administering a substance to his wife with the aim of stupefying or subduing her to facilitate sexual activity.

The events occurred between November 12, 2004, and October 25, 2025, at the couple’s home located in the Stockport area (Greater Manchester). According to the prosecution, the woman suffered repeated assaults while unconscious under the effects of substances administered by her husband.
During the 18-minute appearance, the defendant broke down in tears on the dock while repeating the word “guilty” as the charges were read, which led Judge Maurice Greene to allow him to sit down, according to English media reports. The victim, married to the perpetrator for decades, witnessed the proceedings from the public gallery, holding hands and comforted by family members.

One suspect previously admitted to committing sexual offenses against the victim
The husband’s confession does not close the case, as it is part of an investigation involving multiple defendants. Another twelve men, aged between 28 and 74, face a several-month trial accused of raping and sexually assaulting the same victim between September 2018 and November 2025. Unlike a thirteenth implicated individual who has already admitted the abuses, this dozen defendants deny all charges.
The husband, arrested last October, will remain awaiting his sentence, which will be handed down once the trial against the other defendants concludes.
