The European Parliament has given the green light to a new regulation that introduces significant changes for air travelers. Among the main novelties is the obligation that the price shown when purchasing a ticket reflects from the start the cost of the cabin hand luggage when the passenger decides to travel with it, with the aim of facilitating comparison between companies and avoiding unexpected surcharges.

The reform also maintains and strengthens some passenger rights. The backpack or small bag that fits under the seat will remain free, while those who suffer delays of more than three hours will retain the right to receive compensation between 250 and 600 euros. In addition, airlines must inform within a maximum of four days about the procedure to claim that compensation.

The new framework also seeks to protect certain groups. Children will be able to sit next to their parents without having to pay for an additional seat, a measure that will also benefit pregnant women and those with reduced mobility. The new rules must be applied throughout the next year, once their final processing is completed and they come into force.
