Pope Leo XIV expressed hope this Sunday that “solutions of peace, stability, and justice” can be found in response to the migration crisis in Ceuta, as he said in Spanish during the appeals following the Sunday Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square.

“I follow with concern the alarming situation in Ceuta, asking God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Africa, that solutions of peace, stability, and justice may be found,” the pontiff stated.
This was Leo XIV’s first reaction to the migration crisis that occurred this week in Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city located in North Africa where last Thursday there was a massive entry of tens of thousands of people from Morocco and where 72 migrants have lost their lives.
Although the majority, about 73,500 according to police estimates, have returned to Morocco, this crisis has reignited the debate within the European Union regarding the migration problem and the Union’s borders.

In fact, next Tuesday the interior ministers of the member countries will hold an emergency meeting to analyze the situation in Ceuta.
