Alberto Núñez Feijóo continues in Ceuta this Sunday and has met with associations of the Civil Guard and Police unions at the PP headquarters in the autonomous city. Meanwhile, Miguel Tellado, the party’s secretary general, has deepened the idea of blaming the Government for what happened and has also wanted to warn that Ceuta is far from returning to normality. “We remain just as unprotected. What happened could happen again tomorrow,” he warned in an interview on EsRadio.
According to the popular leader, who is still in Ceuta, there is still a “good number of immigrants” leaving “progressively and very slowly,” although he also pointed out that “the reality is that there are thousands of illegal immigrants who all indications suggest intend to stay in the city and who are hidden in the streets.” Tellado has stated that there is “concern” and “fear” in Ceuta because “what happened has not been clarified” nor is the real number of entries known precisely.
The Government has estimated that 50,000 immigrants entered from Morocco, but the PP believes the figure is higher. Ceuta has a population of around 90,000 inhabitants.
“We have a negligent and incompetent government, which has shown its weakness with a pusillanimous response to what has been a genuine invasion. This was not a migration crisis, this was an attack on the territorial integrity of Spain,” criticized Tellado, who also delved into holding the Government responsible because he believes it had information about what was going to happen.
Already yesterday, Alberto Núñez Feijóo pointed out that “everything seems to indicate” that it was known “since the beginning of the week” that this was going to happen and Tellado insisted that “the Government had the information and did not act.” Moreover, he recalled that the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, already warned on Monday about the situation, so, in Tellado’s opinion, it is “hard to believe” that the intelligence services did not detect the movement of “a human tide.”
“A Government that does not defend national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Spain is a government that does not deserve such a name,” he said. In his view, the Executive should have reinforced in advance the presence of the State Security Forces and Bodies and ordered the deployment of the Army.
In this regard, he has demanded explanations from the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, for not having given “immediate orders” to the Armed Forces to take to the streets.
For the PP, the Government’s responsibility is not limited only to the information that this could happen, but to the “triple failure” in migration policy – which they describe as “permissive” due to mass regularization -, security, and foreign affairs.
