An improvised explosive device detonated this Saturday in a restaurant in downtown Moscow, causing the death of at least three people — including the suspect in the attack — according to Russian state media citing local authorities.

Additionally, at least 21 people were injured by the explosion of the device in the restaurant, Balzi Rossi, located in Kudrinskaya Square in Moscow, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said, cited by the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
An unidentified woman, who was trying to bring the explosive device into the premises, died in the explosion, as did a security guard and a customer, the agency noted. RIA Novosti reported that the woman tried to bring the device into the establishment, but the security guard stopped her before the bomb exploded.
The bomb, which had a power equivalent to nearly one kilogram of TNT, was remotely activated when the guard decided to check the suspicious contents of the package carried by a woman, supposedly a delivery person, according to the version published by the newspaper Kommersant.

Other independent sources indicate that the explosion took place on the terrace, where the party was taking place, which supposedly was also attended by public figures and deputies of the Duma or chamber of deputies who had arrived at the place in official cars.
The causes of the attack remain under investigation, the Moscow Investigative Committee told the news agency.
